The Los Angeles Coroner’s office Monday released the names of two men killed when the car they were in smashed into a parked pickup truck during an apparent street race in La Puente.
They were 26-year-old Johnny Deleon of West Covina and 19-year-old Jonathan Londono of La Puente, said L.A. Coroner’s Investigator Denise Bertone.
The crash was at North Puente Avenue and Amar Road occurred a little after 3:20 a.m. Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A white 2000 Chevrolet Malibu was speeding south on Puente Avenue when the driver, now identified as Deleon, lost control of the car and struck the back of a legally parked Ford pickup truck, according to a CHP crash report.
Deleon and his passenger, now identified as Londono, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A 23-year-old woman who was in the car with Deleon and Londono was rushed by paramedics to Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center with major injuries, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher.
“A witness indicated the Chevrolet Malibu may have been racing a beige sedan,” according to the CHP report.
Officers asked anyone with any information regarding the crash to call the CHP’s Baldwin Park office at (626) 338-1164.
