Two brothers who operated an insurance fraud scheme involving staged auto collisions were sentenced Monday to state prison terms.

Edwin Antonio Bautista-Marroquin, 41, of Sylmar, and Luis Emilio Bautista-Marroquin, 32, of Pacoima were sentenced to six and three years in prison, respectively, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

The siblings were prosecuted on multiple counts of insurance fraud and grand theft, prosecutors said.

Members of the ring staged auto collisions or manufactured “paper” collisions between April 2011 and August 2013.

Eighteen claims were filed, involving nearly a dozen insurance companies, resulting in payouts of almost $240,000, according to prosecutors.
