The Los Angeles Police Department‘s Mission Station was evacuated Sunday after a woman brought a grenade to the front desk.

The woman came to the station at 11121 N. Sepulveda Blvd. in Mission Hills about 1 p.m., said Officer Mike Lopez of the LAPD’s Media Relations Section.

The station and nearby homes and buildings were evacuated, the street was closed off and a bomb squad was summoned.

The device, which the woman said she found while cleaning, was rendered safe and the all-clear was given about 3:15 p.m., Lopez said.

The scare also prompted the California Highway Patrol to close the Rinaldi Street off-ramp from the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway.

A sergeant at the station said anyone who finds a potentially explosive device should leave it where it is and immediately contact authorities.
