Authorities on Thursday identified the two motorists who were killed in a head-on crash in Frazier Park involving a big rig and an ambulance that had been stolen in Kern County.

The crash happened near the Flying J truck stop at 24810 Frazier Mountain Park Road at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher. The site is just south of Los Angeles County’s border with Kern County.

The driver of the big rig was identified as Nelson Martinez, 40, of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.

The driver of the ambulance was identified as Kristina Fort, 50, of Frazier Park, Winter said. According to the preliminary investigation, Fort was driving a stolen ambulance, Winter said.

The crash was being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
