An underground electrical vault explosion in Northridge sent a manhole cover skyward Friday afternoon, causing non-life- threatening injuries to three people when the steel lid struck two vehicles.
The blast in the 9100 block of Reseda Boulevard, near Nordhoff Street, was reported about 1:20 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The explosion also was suspected of causing a temporary power outage at nearby Cal State Northridge, according to the Department of Water and Power.
The manhole cover struck one vehicle and landed on another, causing a total of three vehicless to collide, according to the LAFD.
Three people were taken to hospitals with what were described as minor injuries.
