Pomona police on Tuesday announced the arrests of three juveniles suspected in five burglaries over the past year at Arroyo Elementary School that resulted in losses totaling about $5,000.
The suspects range in age from 11 to 15, according to Pomona police.
Fernando Mesa of the Pomona Unified School District said that in the latest break-in, which occurred last weekend, the youths inadvertently set off an alarm and police arrived in time to arrest them.
“We believe they all knew each other,” he said.
Mesa said the items that were taken in the break-ins included food items and cash in a box, nothing more significant. But the youths also committed vandalism consisting of such acts as setting off fire extinguishers and plugging up toilets, he said.
The juveniles, whose names were withheld because they are minors, were booked on suspicion of commercial burglary and released to their parents.
The case is still being investigated, and anyone with information was asked to call Pomona police at (909) 620-2085.
