A woman who allegedly stabbed and seriously wounded her 3-year-old son during a domestic dispute with the boy’s father at their Cudahy home was charged Thursday with two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Michelle Betancourt, 23, is scheduled to be arraigned June 23 at the Metropolitan Branch Courthouse in Los Angeles. The criminal complaint includes an allegation that she personally inflicted great bodily injury on her son.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies sent to the 3800 block of Walnut Street on a rescue call at about 8:40 p.m. Monday found the boy, who had been stabbed in the upper body.

Betancourt was arrested at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Neighbors said they heard arguing, telling reporters that was not unusual in the suspect’s household, which also included a 9-year-old girl. That child was taken into protective custody.

If convicted as charged, Betancourt could face up to 11 years in state prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
