A 23-year-old Quartz Hill man suspected of causing a fire and being a felon in possession of a gun was arrested Wednesday.
Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters were sent to Soledad Canyon Road and Crown Valley Parkway in a rural area of Acton at 4:15 a.m. to douse a two-acre brush fire, according to Deputy Guillermina Saldana of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
In the aftermath, arson detectives talked to a man at the location who was near the fire site while firefighters were attempting to put it out.
Christopher Hayes was staying at an illegal encampment he had built and his cooking fire caused the blaze, authorities said.
Hayes was booked at the sheriff’s Palmdale Station and held without bail.
