Azusa Police were asking the public for help finding the suspect who held up a liquor store at knife point, a police corporal said Monday.

The armed robbery was reported at 11:20 a.m. Sunday at Canyon City Liquor at 424 W. Foothill Blvd., Cpl. Nick Covarrubias said.

The suspect entered the store and walked up the counter, Covarrubias said. “The suspect asked the employee to give him the money from the cash register, which she did. As she was removing the money, the suspect pulled out a knife which he pointed at the employee.” The suspect demanded the woman’s cellular phone and she complied.

The suspect ran out of the store and south on Orange Avenue, he said. It was not known how much money he took. The employee’s phone was found outside the business and she was not injured.

The suspect was described as an Hispanic man in his 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall, 140 to 160 pounds, with a dark complexion and brown eyes, Covarrubias said. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with large white print on the front, dark basketball shorts, black high-top basketball shoes with white soles and a dark baseball hat with a blue bill and a white letter “A” on the front.

Anyone with information about the crime or the identity of the suspect was asked to call Azusa police at (626) 812-3200. If they want to remain anonymous they can click on the “Anonymous Tip” logo at the top of the Azusa police website.
