An armed 25-year-old man was arrested after sheriff’s Special Weapons Team members threw tear gas into a home to end a nine-hour barricade in the Lake area of Los Angeles, authorities said.
The standoff began about 3 a.m. Wednesday in the 40100 block of 178th Street East, according to the sheriff’s department. Special Enforcement Bureau deputies were sent to the location about 6:45 a.m.
Milton Jackson had put a handgun to a woman’s head and threatened to shoot her. As she began running away, he fired one or two rounds at her, said Deputy Ryan Rouzan.
When deputies arrived they saw Jackson and two other men standing in front of the residence. The three men ran into the home and refused deputy orders to give themselves up.
When deputies set up a containment at the house, 12 people left, but Jackson was not one of them. He remained inside the home, Rouzan said.
Jackson refused to come out when deputies made announcements calling for him to surrender on a public address system.
After efforts to contact him by phone, Special Weapons Team members threw tear gas into the home and were able to arrest Jackson without incident.
Jackson was booked for attempted murder and held on $1 million bail.
