Two men in a stolen vehicle exchanged gunshots with deputies at the end of a car chase in Compton and were later arrested by a SWAT team.

Neither the deputies nor the suspects were hit by gunfire.  Shell casings from the suspects’ gun were located at the scene, said Deputy Sara Rodriguez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff‘s Information Bureau.

Deputies in a patrol car initiated the chase at approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday. After a short pursuit, the suspects’ vehicle stopped and the two men ran from the car, Rodriguez said.

One of the suspects reportedly pointed a gun and fired several shots at the deputies. One of the deputies returned fire, she said.

The suspects then fled into an apartment complex in the 700 block of West Laurel Street, where both were taken into custody with the assistance of a sheriff’s Special Weapons Team, she said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident was asked to call the sheriff’s Compton station at (310) 605-6500.
