Los Angeles International Airport was operating normally Thursday after a power outage hit LAX overnight, trapping some people in elevators and taking out traffic lights.

Flight operations were apparently not affected.

A surge in the line hit the airport at 7:50 p.m., knocking out power, said Marshall Lowe of Los Angeles World Airports, the city agency that operates the airport.

None of the lights on the runways affecting air traffic were involved, but there were some outages in the parking structures and reports of some problems for a while in terminals, Lowe said. With traffic lights out, airport police were forced to direct traffic.

Power was restored about 9:25 p.m.
