Two suspects in a beating that left a man gravely injured near La Puente were in custody after a barricade situation lasting nearly eight hours ended early Tuesday.

The standoff began around 7 p.m. Monday in the 13400 block of Moccasin Street in unincorporated Bassett, said sheriff’s Deputy Kelvin Moody.

The victim, identified as 44-year-old Luis Segura, was hospitalized and his condition was described as “extremely critical,” Moody said. The initial emergency call had said a man was shot, but that was not the case, the sheriff’s department reported.

The barricade ended at 2:45 a.m., when tear gas was deployed to flush out the suspects, one of whom suffered dog bites, the sheriff’s department reported. Johnathan Macias, 23, and his brother Flavio Macias, 28, were booked on suspicion of attempted murder.
