Pomona police Wednesday announced the arrest of a reputed gang member accused in the November 2013 killing of a youth pastor who was shot after taking a group of teenagers to a movie.

Arvin Benson was arrested Thursday in connection with the Nov. 11, 2013, attack on Daniel Diaz, who was shot to death while stopped at the intersection of Mayfair and Park avenues, according to police.

Diaz had taken several teenagers from his church to a movie that night and had just dropped off one of the youths at a home on Mayfair Avenue.

Benson, 27, of Pomona, is set to be arraigned Sept. 29 at the Pomona courthouse on one count each of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, along with allegations that the crime was committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang.

Benson has two prior convictions from 2007 and 2009 for drug-related offenses, according to the criminal complaint.
