A Gardena man who gunned down his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in Hawthorne was sentenced Monday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Donte Bay McNeil, 23, killed 31-year-old Azaam Stallsworth on July 16, 2014.
Jurors deliberated for about two hours before finding McNeil guilty of first-degree murder on July 20, and also found true a special circumstance allegation of murder while lying in wait.
Stallsworth was with his girlfriend, driving her car through an alley near South Prairie Avenue, when McNeil drove slowly toward them. The two cars came to a stop side-by-side and McNeil opened fire.
Stallsworth’s girlfriend was not wounded in the shooting.
