A 29-year-old man fatally shot in San Gabriel was gunned down by a man on a scooter, a sheriff’s lieutenant said.

The shooting was reported at 7:23 p.m. Sunday in the 1900 block of South Brighton Street, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez said.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Navarro- Suarez said.

He was identified as 29-year-old Alhambra resident Steven Escobar, who was standing in front of a home, talking and drinking with four other people, when a man on a scooter approached, exchanged words with the group and then pulled a handgun and opened fire, Lt. Joe Mendoza of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

The gunman left the scooter behind and was last seen running east from the shooting scene, Mendoza told the newspaper.

A detailed description of the suspect has not been made available.
