An employee opened the envelope, which was addressed to the police department, about 2:35 p.m. and noticed a white powder inside, said Burbank police Sgt. Claudio Losacco.

“The administrative offices of the police building were cordoned off and the Burbank Fire Department responded with their hazmat team,” the sergeant said. “Our partners with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department hazmat team also responded.”

The powder was deemed to be no threat about 5 p.m. and the building at 200 N. Third St. was cleared for occupancy, Losacco said.

“The Burbank Police Department will lead a multi-agency investigation, which will include the FBI and the United States Postal Inspector,” Losacco said.
