Los Angeles Police asked for the public’s help Saturday to locate a hit-and-run motorist who severely injured a 70-year-old nun in Boyle Heights.

Police said a reward up to $25,000 is available to community members who provide information leading up to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction, or resolution through a civil compromise.

Sister Raquel Diaz, director of Religious Education at the Church of Assumption, was in the crosswalk at Winter Street and North Evergreen Avenue when she was struck about 5:20 p.m. Thursday by a white four-door compact car going southbound on North Evergeen, the LAPD said.

The driver continued south on Evergreen without stopping after his car hit Diaz, who has been a nun for more than 50 years, police said. Paramedics took Diaz to an area hospital in critical condition.

Police have no suspect information and no arrests have been made.

Central Traffic Division detectives ask that anyone with information regarding the crash call them at (213) 833-3713.
