A man convicted of voluntary manslaughter for stabbing a woman during a dispute over a parking space at a swap meet in Santa Fe Springs was sentenced Tuesday to 13 years in state prison.

Superior Court Judge John A. Torribio imposed the sentence on Reggie Cervantes, 23, who was found guilty Aug. 14 in the Oct. 17, 2014, stabbing of Elizabeth Yanez.

Jurors acquitted Cervantes of first-degree murder and second-degree murder, along with a charge of assault with a deadly weapon on the woman’s son.

The 43-year-old victim was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she later died from other causes, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Yanez — who was with her two adult children — got into an argument with Cervantes, who was in a separate vehicle. Cervantes became involved in a physical altercation with Yanez’s son, then stabbed Yanez, who was involved in a physical struggle with Cervantes’ girlfriend, according to Deputy District Attorney Andrea Mader.

Cervantes was arrested a day later and has remained behind bars since then.
