A man fatally shot a mother of three Friday morning in Koreatown before turning the gun on himself. Police say she had been living in fear of him.
The estranged couple had a history of domestic violence, according to Officer Matthew Ludwig of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.
Officers sent to the 3300 block of James M. Wood Boulevard about 6:30 a.m. found the wounded woman in a vehicle and the wounded man “a short distance away,” police said.
Paramedics took the pair to a hospital for treatment.
The woman was pronounced dead soon after and the man, who was in extremely critical condition, succumbed to his injuries about 12:15 p.m., Ludwig said.
He identified the woman as 39-year-old Gladis Maribel Sicajan and the man as 35-year-old Jorge Martinez.
A police captain told reporters that Martinez had been in court for a status hearing on Thursday and that Sicajan, a mother of three, had been living in fear of him.
Sicajan was about to leave for work when she was shot and Martinez turned the gun on himself about 20 minutes later, police said.
