Rail workers were going about their duties as usual Friday after the disruptive discovery of a suspicious package on a Metro Green Line train led to the evacuation of the Metro train yard in Hawthorne.

The package was determined to be safe, an LA Metro spokesman said, and the “all-clear” was given a couple hours after the incident began.

The Green Line train had pulled into the Hawthorne train yard at 14724 Aviation Blvd. at about 8:15 p.m., Thursday LA Metro spokesman Paul Gonzales said.

“A member of a cleaning crew noticed a suspicious package on the train and notified his supervisor,” Gonzales said. “The supervisor called the sheriff’s department and about 30 to 40 people were evacuated from the train yard at around 8:55 p.m.”

The sheriff’s bomb squad responded to the location and determined the package did not contain explosives and was entirely safe, Gonzales continued.

An all clear was given at 10:35 p.m. and the employees were permitted to return to work.
