Two Department of Water and Power workers suffered minor injuries when they were knocked down by an explosion at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in the Miracle Mile area of Los Angeles, authorities said Saturday.

The explosion occurred during a routine “switching” operation, which caused an equipment failure, according to utility spokeswoman Ellen Cheng.

One worker suffered a second-degree burn to his left wrist and the other worker had complaints of knee pain, Cheng said.

Both were transported to an area hospital in fair condition, where they were treated and released, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The utility workers were sent to the museum at 5905 Wilshire Blvd. at about 11 p.m. Friday for the scheduled maintenance, Cheng said.

Stewart said the workers were working on two high-voltage lockers in the back of the museum, where the explosion occurred and knocked them to the ground.
