The search continued Monday for a 10-year-old boy apparently abducted by his biological father during an unmonitored court- ordered visitation in Covina, authorities said Monday.
Covina Police continued to ask for public help to find the missing parent and son.
“Detectives are following up on tips and leads,” Covina Police Lt. Tim Doonan told City News Service. “They went to the dad’s house.”
Michael Stevens allegedly was abducted by his father. Michael Joseph Stevens, 49, some time after 2:30 p.m. Friday during a scheduled four-hour visitation that began at a McDonalds restaurant in the 100 block of N. Grand Avenue, according to Covina police Sgt. Gregg Peterson.
The missing child was reported to police by his foster parent at 7:11 p.m. Friday when the boy had not been returned by the appointed time, Peterson said. The foster mother had met with Stevens to hand over the child for his visitation.
The boy and his father were last seen about 3:30 p.m. Friday walking in the Vons shopping plaza at 932 E. Badillo St., near the intersection of Grand Avenue, Peterson said.
The boy is white, about 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighs about 130 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue striped shirt over a white T-shirt, a gray-zippered hooded sweatshirt and blue and white Nike tennis shoes.
The suspect is white, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds, Peterson said. He has black receding hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue and white button-down shirt over a white T- shirt and a dark-colored baseball hat.
The father is possibly driving a gray 2006 Toyota Tundra, with unknown plates, and he also has access to a blue 1997 Mercedes with the California license plate 6TRE078, and a 1997 Saab 900, Nevada license plate 982WDC. His last known address was in San Bernardino and the boy’s biological mother lives in Nevada.
