A spectacular fire Monday damaged two industrial buildings in Glassell Park, but no one was hurt.
The greater alarm fire at 3019 N. Fierro St. was reported at 5:18 a.m. and was fueled by combustible materials and propane cylinders, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The flames were extinguished in an hour and 40 minutes, Humphrey said.
Flames were shooting through the roof of the most heavily damaged building when firefighters arrived, prompting them to assume a defensive posture and battle the blaze from the exterior of the structure, he said. About 150 firefighters were sent to the scene, Humphrey said.
The building is 5,000 square feet and firefighters trained water on the fire to keep it from spreading to nearby structures, Humphrey said. One other nearby structure was also damaged.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. A damage estimate was not immediately known. Traffic was routed away from the area.
