A motorist was killed Wednesday in a collision with a trash truck in the El Sereno area.

Jesus Andres Padilla, 21, of Los Angeles, died at the scene of the 6 a.m. crash on Alhambra Avenue east of Druid Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Padilla, who was westbound on Alhambra Avenue, was passing another vehicle in the number one lane when he lost control of his 1991 Ford Mustang, according to police.

The Mustang rotated in a counter-clockwise direction and drifted into the path of a privately owned garbage truck traveling eastbound on Alhambra Avenue, according to an LAPD statement.

“Based on evidence at the scene, Padilla was driving at a minimum speed of 50 mph just prior to the collision,” according to the statement. “It did not appear that drugs or alcohol was involved, and reports of street racing were unsupported.”

The LAPD Central Traffic Division was investigating the cause of the crash. Anyone with information on the case was urged to contact the LAPD detectives at (213) 833-3713; Officer Robert Palma at (213) 486-0767; or (877) LAPD-247.
