Metrolink train service through Norwalk was stored after authorities “rendered safe” two suspicious packages found Thursday morning, an official said.
The packages were found about 7:25 a.m. as dogs were being used to inspect packages, according to sheriff’s Lt. Rich Maradiaga.
Metrolink’s Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs station was closed and a sheriff’s arson/explosive detail was dispatched to the scene, according to Ramon Montenegro, a public information officer with the sheriff’s Transit Policing Division.
Montenegro later said that the packages were “rendered safe” about 9:50 a.m. and train service was restored. Further details were not immediately available.
Local transit hubs have been on heightened alert following the deadly bombings in Belgium on Tuesday. The security effort has involved rifled-toting officers and bomb-sniffing dogs.
