Multiple complaints of a natural gas odor in several Los Angeles International Airport terminals Friday prompted an investigation, but the suspected source turned out to be some sewer vent pipes that were open while work was being done.

Firefighters responded to the airport about 4:35 p.m. after the odor was reported in terminals 5, 6 and 7, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Crews went through the terminals with hand-held gas meters and found no leak and by about 6:10 p.m. the sewer vents were capped and the smell dissipated, Stewart said.

No one was injured and no flights were impacted, she said.
