A 37-year-old San Gabriel man was behind bars Tuesday on suspicion of killing a man whose body was found in the trunk of a car abandoned in Monterey Park, authorities said.

The victim — identified by the coroner’s office as 30-year-old Min Gu — was fatally shot in a marijuana growing house in the 5500 block of Sultana Avenue in Temple City, according to sheriff’s homicide detectives.

A foul odor prompted calls to authorities from people near the decomposing body, which was left in a car in the 200 block of south Lincoln Avenue in Monterey Park. Police broke into the trunk on March 21, sheriff’s Sgt. Vincent Plair said.

Andy Chen was arrested Monday about 2:25 a.m. on suspicion of murder, sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Rouzan said.

“Detectives believe the motive for the murder was a financial dispute,” Rouzan said.

Chen was being held on $1 million bail, according to L.A. County jail records.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday in Alhambra Superior Court.
