Sheriff’s detectives asked for the public’s help Thursday to identify a man who burglarized a Rancho Palos Verdes home while posing as a solicitor for solar energy, authorities said.

Deputies from the sheriff’s Lomita Station responded about 9 a.m. Wednesday, to the home in the 6100 block of Arrowroot Lane, discovered a smashed glass door and confirmed a burglary had occurred, Sgt. Thomas Arellano said.

However, the suspect had fled the location and the department believed the burglary took place sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., Arellano continued.

Security video captured the suspect in the act of breaking in. He was described as white or Hispanic, in his late 20s to early 30s, with brown or black facial hair, wearing a brown, brimmed hat, black framed glasses and a navy blue denim type shirt and pants, according to Arellano.

The suspect was believed to be driving an older white Lexus sedan with a sunroof, Arellano said.

Anyone with information on the burglary was asked to call the sheriff’s Lomita Station at (310) 539-1661. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477. All tips can be made anonymously.
