Authorities Sunday were trying to figure out what happened when three pedestrians were injured and one killed when they were struck by a car involved in a collision with another vehicle in the Valley Glen area of North Hollywood, broadcast reports said.
The three injured pedestrians were girls who suffered non-life- threatening injuries, and the deceased pedestrian was said to be a woman.
A previous report from the Los Angeles Police Department said a woman in her 60s was critically injured, and that may have been the person who died.
The crash was reported about 4:10 p.m. Saturday in the 12700 block of Vanowen Street, authorities said.
A white sedan hit another vehicle while both were westbound on Vanowen Street between Coldwater Canyon and Bellaire avenues, according to Los Angeles police.
Upon impact, one vehicle veered north into some parked cars while the other careened to the south, jumped a curb and hit the pedestrians before plowing through a wrought iron fence and coming to rest against an apartment building.
All four pedestrians were taken to a hospital, authorities said.
The girls ages were 13, 8 and 7, Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
A man who was driving one of the vehicles also was hospitalized with non- life-threatening injuries, police said.
