The body of Armida Custodio was discovered about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday by officers conducting a welfare check at her single-family home in the 11300 block of Terra Vista Way, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police this afternoon named her adult grandson — Joseph “Joey” Kushner, in his 30s — as a suspect.

“Joseph … has not been seen by the family since May 2,” a police statement said. “Joseph was living with his grandmother at the time of the murder. Detectives need the public’s help in locating him.”

Police scheduled an afternoon news conference to release the suspect’s photo and to appeal for public help in finding him.

When officers went to the residence on Terra Vista Way Wednesday night, no one answered the door, police said. The officers entered the residence and found Custodio unconscious and not breathing, police said.

“Further investigation revealed that the elderly female had been deceased for an unspecified amount of time,” according to a police statement.

Homicide detectives say the woman suffered fatal blunt force trauma inside the home.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call LAPD Detective Dave Peteque at (818) 374-1934. After-hours or weekend calls should be directed to (877) LAPD-24-7. Anonymous tips can be provided by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
