Los Angeles Animal Services officials Tuesday sought the coyote maimed by a leg-hold trap and the person responsible for setting the illegal snare.

Authorities received a call on Friday about a trap with a coyote leg inside it. The report came three days after another person reported witnessing a coyote caught in a leg-hold trap.

Animal control officers recovered the trap and looked for the injured animal.

Officials have received reports of an injured coyote in the North Hills and Mission Hills areas of the San Fernando Valley, including near the Veterans Affairs Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center and the Mission Hills Golf Course, according to animal services officials.

Anyone with information about the coyote or the trap-setter was urged to call animal control officers at (213) 484-8441 or (213) 485-8405.
