
This Fourth of July holiday weekend is getting off to a deadly start on state roads.
More people have died on freeways and highways statewide and in Los Angeles County so far this holiday weekend than in 2015, the California Highway Patrol said in its latest report.
There were seven fatalities statewide from 6:01 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, according to the CHP in Los Angeles. There were five fatalities in the first 12 hours of the Independence Day holiday in 2015.
One person died in Los Angeles County during the first 12 hours of the holiday weekend, according to the CHP. There were no fatalities in Los Angeles County during the first 12 hours of the holiday weekend in 2015.
There were fewer DUI arrests statewide and in Los Angeles County during the first 12 hours of the weekend this year than last. There were 280 DUI arrests statewide during the first 12 hours of the holiday this year compared with 368 during the same period last year.
There were 62 DUI arrests in Los Angeles County during the first 12 hours of the holiday weekend compared with 90 during the same period in 2015.
No fatalities on highways and freeways in Orange County have been reported so far this weekend, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch center in Orange County.
There were 19 DUI arrests in Orange County during the first 12 hours of the holiday weekend, according to a dispatcher, who did not have comparison figures.
