A 15-month-old boy suffered a skull fracture and a bruised lung when a vehicle struck and backed over him in Pomona, police said.
The toddler was injured about 8:40 p.m. in the 1000 block of East Olive Street, according to Pomona Police Lt. Chuck Becker.
When officers arrived at the scene, the boy was being treated by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics before he was airlifted to a hospital, Becker said.
“The child was at the location with his parents visiting friends,” according to Becker.
One of the friends, identified as 25-year-old Amanda Lana Avalos of Pomona, was leaving the location and was unaware that the child had walked behind the car into the street as she backed out of the driveway, Becker said said.
“As she backed, she struck and subsequently ran over the child,” he said.
The child was hospitalized in stable condition, Becker said.
“No alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision and the driver was lawfully licensed,” he said. “There is no information at this time to suggest that any criminal charges will occur related to this incident.”
The child is a resident of Beaumont in Riverside County, Becker said.
