Firefighters knocked down a brush fire that broke out Tuesday evening in the Baldwin Hills area of Los Angeles in 53 minutes.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.

The fire was reported at about 6 p.m. in the 5000 block of West Coliseum Street, near the north side of the Kenneth Hahn State Recreational Area. Initial reports mentioned a quarter-acre of hillside grass burning toward some light brush. But firefighters found more spot fires when they arrived, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire was upgraded to a full brush fire and a water-dropping helicopter was called in. The Los Angeles County Fire Department also responded to assist the city’s fire department, with 103 firefighters contributing to the effort.

Traffic was closed on South La Brea Avenue south of Coliseum Street.

LAFD crews remained on the scene to mop up a few hot spots.
