A possibly armed man barricaded himself inside a car on the lawn of a La Verne home Friday after crashing the vehicle while being chased by police.
A utility crew saw the suspect holding a firearm about 5 p.m. and called authorities, but when officers arrived the man got back into the car and led them on a short chase that ended with a crash into a fire hydrant, La Verne police Capt. Nick Paz told reporters at the scene.
The man holed up inside the vehicle in the area of Calle Aragon and Via del Marino and a SWAT team was summoned. The area was sealed off, with nearby residents told to shelter in their homes, police said.
The suspect remained barricaded in the vehicle hours after the incident began.
