A former science teacher at Arroyo High School in El Monte pleaded no contest Thursday to a lewd act with an underage girl and was immediately sentenced to three years in state prison.
Superior Court Commissioner Wade Olson also ordered Richard Paul Daniels, 57, of Fontana, to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities were notified last year about an allegation of an inappropriate relationship between Daniels and the student, whose age was not disclosed. The girl told police that Daniels had initiated a sexual relationship, according to Deputy District Attorney Sandra Jimenez.
Daniels was subsequently arrested and charged last year.
