Police Thursday were looking for a prostitute’s client who ended up choking the woman and shooting her in the leg after the pair made a deal for sex.

The attack took place about 10:45 p.m. Wednesday at Westminster Avenue and Seaboard Circle, Garden Grove police Lt. Bob Bogue said.

The unidentified victim — a 23-year-old woman from Victorville — was working as a prostitute in the West Washington Avenue and Bewley Street area of Santa Ana when the suspect solicited her, Bogue said.

The woman directed him to drive to Seaboard Circle in Garden Grove and “the next thing you know he’s choking her, pulls out a gun and shoots her in the leg,” Bogue said.

The woman, whose name was withheld by police, managed to get free and the suspect drove away. She called a friend, who took her to an area hospital, where police were called, Bogue said.

The victim described the suspect as a stocky Latino man in his late 20s to early 30s, with a light complexion and short black hair with a fade. He has a thick accent and was wearing a white-collared, short-sleeved shirt similar to a uniform and dark brown or beige work pants.
