A 27-year-old man suspected of stabbing a woman in Long Beach has been arrested, police announced Thursday.
Officers were sent about 10:35 p.m. May 28 to investigate a report of a stabbing in the 4500 block of California Avenue, near San Antonio Drive, and found the victim had sustained stab wounds to her upper and lower body, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The woman, whose name was withheld, said she had been attacked by an unknown man while walking in the area and was in stable condition when taken to a hospital, police said.
“Through their investigation … detectives identified the suspect as Joseph Hernandez, a 27-year-old male resident of Long Beach,” according to an LBPD statement. “Suspect Hernandez was already in custody for an unrelated incident. He was re-booked for attempted murder, and bail is set at $1,000,000.”
Hernandez was charged Wednesday with attempted murder, along with allegations that he personally used a knife and personally inflicted great bodily injury, according to the criminal complaint.
He is set to be arraigned Friday at the Long Beach courthouse, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Anyone with information regarding the stabbing was urged to call LBPD Violent Crimes Detective Derek Bailey at 562-570-7250.
