A brush fire swallowed up 10 acres near the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo Thursday afternoon and was threatening some structures.

The blaze started for unknown reasons about 2:30 p.m. at 26772 Avery Parkway, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz.

The fire was threatening some structures near the golf course, he said, but no evacuations were immediately ordered.

“It’s a slope-driven fire, not wind-aided,” Kurtz said, adding flames were advancing at a moderate speed.

Firefighters were attacking the flames from the air and on the ground, Kurtz said.
