A 23-year-old “walk-on” men’s water polo coach at University High in Irvine was arrested Tuesday for allegedly having sex with a student at the school, police reported.
Coleman Pickell, 23, was arrested at 1:20 p.m. somewhere off campus, according to Irvine police, who did not disclose the student’s age or sex.
The Irvine Unified School District issued a statement saying that Pickell, effective immediately, “will no longer coach or have contact with students at University High School, or through any Irvine Unified school.”
“IUSD takes these allegations very seriously and will continue to work closely with the Irvine Police Department as it moves forward with the investigation,” the statement said.
