An East Los Angeles man was in custody Friday on suspicion of stabbing his ex-girlfriend and her adult daughter in their West Covina home, wounding them before turning himself in, authorities said.
“There was a melee in the house,” according to one law enforcement officer. “When he attacked, he said his girlfriend’s family members jumped on him.”
The violence occurred around 9 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 3100 block of South Adrienne Drive, West Covina Police Lt. David Lee told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
The older woman, who Lee said is in her 40s, was taken to a hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive, the newspaper reported. Her daughter, who is in her 20s, suffered what police believe are non life- threatening injuries.
Arrested in the incident was 46-year-old Eduardo Marin, who police said had a previous relationship with the mother. He showed up at the victims’ home and became involved in an argument and then stabbed the women, according to the Tribune.
Marin fled from the crime scene but turned himself in about two hours after the incident to deputies at the Los Angeles County sheriff’s East Los Angeles Station, said sheriff’s Lt. Alex Salinas. Marin had head injuries and was taken to a hospital, he said.
Marin was expected to be booked on suspicion of attempted murder, the Tribune reported.
Police detectives and crime scene investigators cordoned off the neighborhood and Lee told the newspaper that the knife believed to have been used in the stabbing was recovered at the scene.
