Seven children and two adults were hurt when an out-of-control miniature train ride at a Covina kids birthday party overturned, authorities said Sunday.

Riders were tossed from the train as it was headed down a small hill. The accident was reported in the 2100 block of East Rancho Culebra, Covina Police Sgt. Gregg Peterson said.

“The driver lost control as it was traveling down a hill and the occupants of the train were ejected onto the roadway,” Peterson said.

Seven of the injured were children ages 3 to 7 years old and two were adults, he said.

The nine victims were taken to hospitals with minor injuries after the Saturday afternoon incident. Injuries included contusions and abrasions, Peterson said.

No arrests have been made as authorities tried to figure out the cause of the accident, Peterson said.
