A 19-year-old Pomona man accused of stabbing his girlfriend several times, leaving her in critical condition, pleaded not guilty Monday to attempted murder and related counts.
Martin Gallegos is facing one felony count each of attempted murder, aggravated mayhem and assault with a deadly weapon and two felony counts of injuring a girlfriend.
The criminal complaint also includes knife and great bodily injury involving domestic violence allegations.
Gallegos is due back in court Dec. 19, when a date is expected to be set for a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial. He is being held on $2 million bail.
The 18-year-old victim, whose name was withheld, was found in the middle of the street by officers responding Sept. 17 to a radio call of a traffic crash in the area of 800 block of North Hill Street.
Gallegos was standing near the car — crashed into a pole — when they arrived and was arrested at the scene. He allegedly stabbed the victim while they were in the car.
Prosecutors said Gallegos had allegedly attacked his girlfriend at least once before, on July 28.
If convicted as charged, he faces up to 15 years to life in prison.
