A homeless man accused of unsuccessfully trying to shoot a Redondo Beach police officer with a homemade shotgun was ordered Monday to stand trial on attempted murder and other charges.
Norman Wallsh, 40, is facing one count each of attempted murder of a peace officer, shooting at an unoccupied vehicle and possession of a zip gun.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Hector Guzman ruled that sufficient evidence was presented during the defendant’s preliminary hearing to proceed to trial.
Wallsh is next due in court on Nov. 30 for arraignment.
Wallsh allegedly aimed a homemade shotgun at an officer, trying and failing to fire the weapon, after Redondo Beach police responded on Sept. 22, 2014, to reports that the defendant shot at a car window.
Wallsh has been jailed on $1 million bail since his arrest.
If convicted as charged, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
