A 16-year-old bicyclist who was on his way to school was killed Tuesday when he was hit by a truck that had collided with another truck at a Pacoima intersection, authorities said.

Paramedics sent to the 11700 block of Glenoaks Boulevard about 7 a.m. pronounced the boy dead at the scene, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. His name was withheld pending notification of his relatives.

The teen was riding his bike to the nearby Vaughn Charter School, where he was a 10th-grader, said Los Angeles police Detective Bill Bustos of the Valley Traffic Division.

Crisis counselors were brought in to assist those at the school, Bustos said.

According to the preliminary investigation, a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup that was southbound on Glenoaks Boulevard collided with a 2006 Chevrolet pickup that was eastbound on Vaughn Street, Bustos said.

The impact sent both trucks in a southbound direction, where the Dodge struck the boy, who was riding westbound in the south crosswalk at the intersection, Bustos said. The teen was pinned beneath the Dodge, Bustos said.

It was unclear which truck had the right of way, Bustos said. Both motorist stopped at the scene and cooperated with police, and neither was arrested, he said.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Valley Traffic Division at (818) 644-8000.
