A woman was fatally wounded Wednesday in Temple City by an intruder who armed himself with a samurai sword and was later taken into custody.

The attack occurred about 12:05 p.m. in the 6000 block of Temple City Boulevard, according to Deputy Sara Rodriguez of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a man injured during the attack was taken to a hospital with injuries of unknown severity, according to Rodriguez.

The suspect, who may have been on drugs and lived on the same street, walked into the home and attacked the woman with a wrench, and then stabbed her with an ornamental sword that was in the house, sheriff’s Lt. John Corina told reporters at the scene.

The suspect was reported to be a 44-year-man who surrendered to authorities about two hours after the attack.

The woman’s 10-year-old son was home at the time but escaped injury.

The names of the victims and the suspect were not immediately available.
