A man was beaten to death Friday during a fight with another man in the Westlake District, and police took the survivor into custody for questioning.
Officers were sent to the 400 block of Hartford Avenue about 1 a.m. in response to a report of a domestic dispute, said Lt. Cliff Humphris of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Rampart Station.
It wasn’t known if the “domestic dispute” involved people with some kind of relationship.
According to police, an argument escalated to a physical altercation, during which a 30-year-old man was hit on the head with a metal pipe by a 22- year-old man.
The older man died at the scene, and the younger man was taken into custody for questioning when he and a woman went to the Rampart Station after the altercation, said Los Angeles police Officer Norma Eisenman.
Authorities withheld the name of the fatally injured man, pending family notification.
