A man who allegedly pointed a handgun at Azusa police was killed in an officer-involved shooting, authorities said Monday.

It happened about 11:20 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Windsong Court, said Deputy Jeffrey A. Gordon of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene,” Gordon said.

The name of the 49-year-old man was withheld, pending family notification.

Officers had gone to the neighborhood in response to reports of shots fired and a “man with a gun,” Gordon said.

“Shortly after arriving at the location, officers made contact with the suspect, who refused to follow the officers’ commands,” Gordon said. “The suspect pointed a handgun at an officer. Fearing for his life the officer fired several rounds from his duty weapon at the suspect, striking the suspect at least once in the upper torso.”
