A truck carrying an estimated 20 tons of cargo crashed and overturned on an onramp to the Long Beach (710) Freeway in Commerce Friday, temporarily blocking the freeway entrance.

The crash occurred about 4:50 p.m. on the Washington Boulevard onramp to the northbound Long Beach Freeway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Michele Bond.

The truck also knocked down two road signs, she said.

The CHP shut down the onramp while the cargo was being offloaded so the truck could be uprighted, according to Bond.

A SigAlert was declared at 5:01 p.m. by the CHP. As of 9 p.m., the offloading of the cargo was still in progress and the onramp was still shut down.

No injuries have been reported.
